Botanical Family: Zingiberaceae (ginger)
Chemical Constituents: Esters (>40%): α-terpenyl acetate (30–45%), linalyl acetate (3%); Oxides: 1,8 cineol (up to 35%); Alcohols (7%): linalol, terpinen-4-ol, α-terpineol; Monoterpenes (6%): sabinene, myrcene, l-limonene; Aldehyde: geranial.
Properties: Antibacterial, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory10, antiseptic, antispasmodic11, aphrodisiac, digestive12, diuretic, stomachic, and tonic.
Historical Uses: Anciently, cardamom was used for epilepsy, spasms, paralysis, rheumatism, cardiac disorders, all intestinal illnesses, pulmonary disease, fever, and digestive and urinary complaints. It is said to be able to neutralize the lingering odor of garlic.
Other Possible Uses: Cardamom may help with appetite (loss of), colic, coughs, debility, dyspepsia, flatulence, halitosis, headaches, mental fatigue, nausea, pyrosis (or heartburn), sciatica, and vomiting. It may also help with menstrual periods, menopause, and nervous indigestion. Note: Cardamom has the same properties as ginger but is less of an irritant.

Aromatic Influence: Cardamom is uplifting, refreshing, and invigorating. It may be beneficial for clearing confusion.
Application: Apply to Vita Flex Points and/or directly on area of concern. Dilute with base oil, and massage over the stomach, solar plexus, and thighs. Excellent as a bath oil.
Oral Use As Dietary Suppliment: Generally regarded as safe (GRAS) for human consumption by the FDA. Dilute one drop oil in 1 tsp. honey or in 4 oz. of beverage (i.e. soy/rice milk). Not for children under 6 years old; use with caution and in greater dilution for children 6 years old and over.
Blend Classification: Personifier and Modifier.
Blends With: Bergamot, cedarwood, cinnamon bark, cistus, clove, neroli, orange, rose, and ylang ylang.
Odor: Type: Middle Note (50–80% of the blend); Scent: Sweet, spicy, balsamic, with floral undertones; Intensity: 4.
