Botanical Family: Gramineae (grasses)

Extraction Method/Origin: Steam distilled from leaves—India, Guatemala

Chemical Constituents: Aldehydes (up to 80%): geranial (<42%), neral (<38%), farnesal (<3%), decanal; Alcohols (<15%): geraniol (<10%), α-terpineol (<3%), borneol (<2%), nerol, linalol, citronellol; Sesquiterpene Alcohols: farnesol (<13%); Esters (<11%): geranyl & linalyl acetates; Monoterpenes (<9%): myrcene (<5%), d-limonene (<3%), β-ocimene; Sesquiterpenes: β-caryophyllene (<6%); Oxides: caryophyllene oxide (<4%); Ketones: methyl heptanone (<3%).

Properties: Analgesic, antibacterial, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, insect repellent, revitalizer, sedative, tonic, and vasodilator.

Historical Uses: Lemongrass has been used for infectious illnesses and fever, as an insecticide, and as a sedative to the central nervous system.

French Medicinal Uses: Bladder infection (cystitis), connective tissue (regenerates), digestive system, edema, fluid retention, kidney disorders, lymphatic drainage, parasympathetic nervous system (regulates), varicose veins, vascular walls (strengthens).

Other Possible Uses: This oil may help cholesterol, improve circulation, improve digestion, improve eyesight, fevers, flatulence, headaches, clear infections, repair ligaments, wake up the lymphatic system, get the oxygen flowing, purification, respiratory problems, sore throats, tissue regeneration, and water retention.

Oral Use As Dietary Suppliment: Generally regarded as safe (GRAS) for human consumption by the FDA. Dilute one drop oil in 1 tsp. honey or in 4 oz. of beverage (i.e. soy/rice milk). Not for children under 6 years old; use with caution and in greater dilution for children 6 years old and over.

Safety Data: Can cause extreme skin irritation.

Blend Classification: Enhancer and Equalizer.

Blends With: Basil, cedarwood, clary sage, eucalyptus, geranium, jasmine, lavender, melaleuca (tea tree), and rosemary.
