Juniper (or Rocky Mountain Juniper)
Botanical Family: Cupressaceae (conifer: cypress)
Extraction Method/Origin: Steam distilled from berries and twigs—Utah
Chemical Constituents: Monoterpenes (>50%): α-pinene (up to 40%), sabinene (<18%), myrcene (<8%), l-limonene (<6%); Esters: bornyl acetate (up to 20%); Ketones (up to 19%): camphor (<18%), junionone, pinocamphone; Sesquiterpenes: muurolene (<3%).
Properties: Antiseptic, antispasmodic, astringent, cleanser, detoxifier, diuretic, stimulant, and tonic.
Common Primary Uses: TAcne, Aalcoholism,Tdermatitis/eczema, Tkidney stones, Ttinnitus.
Folklore: According to Roberta Wilson, “During biblical times, juniper was often used to banish evil spirits.” Also, during Medieval times, “Bundles of juniper berries were hung over doors to ward off witches, and burning juniper wood supposedly deterred demons.”
Historical Uses: Over the centuries, juniper has been used for physical and spiritual purification, for cleansing infections and healing wounds, for liver complaints, for embalming, for relieving arthritis and urinary tract infections, for warding off plagues, epidemics, and contagious diseases, and for headaches, kidney and bladder problems, pulmonary infections, and fevers.
French Medicinal Uses: Acne, dermatitis, eczema.
Other Possible Uses: This oil may work as a detoxifier and a cleanser, which may reduce acne, dermatitis, and eczema. It may also help coughs, depression, energy, infection, increase circulation through kidneys, kidney stones, liver problems, aching muscles, nerve function and regeneration, obesity, rheumatism (promotes excretion of uric acid and toxins), ulcers, urinary infections, water retention, and wounds.

Aromatic Influence: Juniper evokes feelings of health, love, and peace and may help to elevate one’s spiritual awareness.
Application: Apply to Vita Flex Points and/or directly on area of concern; diffuse. Juniper may also be applied to the forehead to enhance feelings of optimism or on the cheeks for confidence and euphoria
Oral Use As Dietary Suppliment: As of the printing of the Reference Guide for Essential Oilsbook, the FDA has NOT given this variety of juniper the designation of GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe for human consumption) (see 21CFR182.20). However, the more common variety of Juniper berry (Juniperus communis L.) has been designated GRAS by the FDA. Since chemical constituents are very similar, use with caution and dilute well when unsure!
