Botanical Family: Umbeliferae

Extraction Method/Origin: Steam distilled from seed—France

Chemical Constituents: Monoterpenes (up to 85%): d-limonene (>60%), ocimene (<11%), α & γ-terpinenes; Esters (<23%): carvyl acetate, geranyl acetate; Lactones (approx. 15%): 3-n-butylphthalide (up to 7%), sedanenolides (>1%), 4-dihydro-phthalide (1%), dihydro-ligustilide (3%); Sesquiterpenes (up to 12%): α- & β-selinenes; Ketones: d-carvone (<10%); Carboxylic Acids: sedanolic acid; Alcohols: α-terpineol.

Properties: Antioxidant, antirheumatic, antiseptic (urinary), antispasmodic, antitumoral14, hepatic (stimulates drainage), stimulant (uterine), tonic (neuromuscular).

Possible Uses: Celery seed may help with arthritis, bloating, bronchitis, congestion (respiratory), cystitis, flatulence, glands (swollen), gout (reduces uric acid), hemorrhoids, indigestion, jaundice, kidney detoxification (after illness), lactation (increases flow of breast milk), liver congestion (after infection), lymphatic drainage, menstruation (induces), Nervous disorders, neuralgia, rheumatism, sciatica, sexual problems (minimizes), skin (puffiness, redness, spots, water-logged), and urine flow (increases). It may help to balance the endocrine system to help with glandular problems. It is also a sedative and a tonic for the central nervous system and may help provide more restful sleep.

Aromatic Influence: Celery seed has a spicy, warm, sweet, tenacious odor. It is fairly strong and long-lasting. The aroma is calming and relaxing to the mind and the body.

Oral Use As Dietary Suppliment: Generally regarded as safe (GRAS) for human consumption by the FDA. Dilute one drop oil in 1 tsp. honey or in 4 oz. of beverage (i.e. soy/rice milk). Not for children under 6 years old; use with caution and in greater dilution for children 6 years old and over.

Safety Data: Repeated use can possibly result in contact sensitization or skin irritation. Avoid during pregnancy.
